For the unknown, TWRP recovery is a custom recovery for Android devices that allows you to perform a full Nandroid backup of an Android device. And if you’re in such custom things like ROMs, MODs, etc. And also TWRP lets you flash/install unsigned zip files as well.

In addition, getting the Motorola Moto Z Root is a piece of cake now with the launch of the official TWRP recovery compilation for the device. All you need to do at the root Motorolla Moto Z is to install TWRP recovery and flash / install SuperSU zip recovery. Or if you want to play Pokemon Go and use Android Pay as you root, then get the root through the Magisk interface no system instead of SuperSU and can bypass the security check, thanks to Magisk’s ability to disable root on the fly in case of need.

Root Motorola Moto Z UsingTWRP and SuperSU /Magisk

Required Download Files

  • Download ADB folder on your PC
  • Download TWRP Recovery.img file for your Motorola Moto Z into the PC and save it in a separate folder.
  • Download SuperSU or Magisk on your Motorola Moto Z according to your choice.

Unlock the Bootloader And Install TWRP Recovery on Motorola Moto Z.

  1. Install and setup ADB folder on your PC.
  2. Visit Motorola Bootloader Unlock website
  3. Read the whole thing on the website, if you want to know what risks you have by opening the Bootloader. Then click next on the bottom of the page.
  4. Now you will get to the sign in page, sign in with your Motorola account. If you don’t have one, just create one.
  5. Once you sign in/sign up, it will take you to Unlock your Bootloader
  6. Now enable OEM unlock on your Motorola Moto Z
    (Settings > About Phone > tap the Built Number for 7 times to enable Developer Options, now go to settings > Developer Options > enable OEM Unlocking)
  7. Now reboot your Motorola Moto Z into Fastboot mode.
    (turn off your Motorola Moto Z and turn it on by pressing the Volume Down and Power buttons together)
  8. Once your Motorola Moto Z is in fastboot mode, now connect it to the PC.
  9. Open command window in the PC and provide the command below
    (while holding the shift, right click anywhere on the folder and click Open command window)
    fastboot oem get_unlock_data
  10. The command prompt will show you a string, which is going to give you the unlock key.
    Example string:
    (bootloader) 0A40060192024205#4C4E3556313230
    (bootloader) 30273731363074306332323239#BD00
    (bootloader) 8A672BA4746C2CE02328A2BC0C36A95
    (bootloader) 1A3E5#1F53280002670000000000000
    (bootloader) 0000000
  11. Now copy the complete string into one line as it shown below.
    (This string will vary accordingly for each Phone)
    Example string:
    0A40060192024205#4C4E355631323030273731363074306332323239#BD008A672BA4746C2CE02328A2BC0C36A951A3E5#1F532800026700000000000000000000
  12. Once you have the complete string on your hand, now copy this full string into the Motorola website and click “Can my device be unlocked?”
  13. When you provide the string and if the Phone is unlockable, Request Unlock Key button will appear in the bottom of the page.
  14. Accept the license agreement and click the Request Unlock Key button to proceed.
  15. Now you will receive an email with your Unlock key, the email which provided to login with the Motorola account.
    (if you didn’t receive an email, make you check the spam folder)
  16. Then provide the unlock key to the command prompt using the below command as it is shown.
    fastboot oem unlock past your unlock key here
  17. Now, your Motorola Moto Z will confirm the Bootloader unlock and Reboots itself.
  18. Now the Bootloader is successfully unlocked
  19. Download the TWRP Recovery.img file that is compatible for your Motorola Moto Z, save it in a separate folder on your PC.
  20. Now enable USB Debugging on your Motorola Moto Z
    (Settings > About Phone > tap the Built Number for 7 times to enable Developer Options, now go to settings > Developer Options > enable USB Debugging)
  21. Open the folder, where the TWRP Recovery.img is saved.
  22. Now open command prompt on this folder.
    (while holding the shift, right click anywhere on the folder and click Open command window)
  23. While the connected to the PC, provide the below command into the command prompt.
    (on your Phone, if it shows to Allow USB Debugging just click ok)
    adb reboot bootloader
  24. Now the device will reboot into Bootloader mode.
  25. Rename the TWRP Recovery file download as twrp.
  26. Now provide the below command into command prompt
    fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
  27. Now TWRP will flash into your Motorola Moto Z.
  28. Once it is done issue the below command reboot your Device
    fastboot reboot
  29. When the Phone is rebooted, now you have successfully installed TWRP Recovery.
  30. Now enter the below command on your PC command prompt
    adb reboot recovery

 

How to Root Motorola Moto Z with SuperSu

 

  1. Boot your Motorola Moto Z into TWRP Recovery
  2. Click the install option on the screen.
  3. Now browse and select SuperSU.zip file downloaded on your Device.
  4. After selecting the correct file just swipe right the Swipe to Confirm Flash button on the screen to start flashing.
  5. Once the flashing is completed, screen will show you Reboot option.
  6. Just reboot and you a done with everything ready for you.

For further verification of Root access, check it with the Root Checker App available on in the Play Store.

How to Root Motorola Moto Z with Magisk

  1. Install the Magisk system less interface on your Motorola Moto Z
  2. Now download and transfer phh’s SuperUser.zip file to your Motorola Moto Z.
  3. Boot your Phone into TWRP Recovery.
  4. Select install and flash the SuperUser.zip file into the Device
  5. Once it is flashed reboot your Device
  6. Now Download and install SuperUser App from the Play Store.
  7. Also install Magisk Manager apk on your Motorola Moto Z
  8. Enjoy, now the Root access is gained.
