Lenovo owned the company and has been making best budget phones since 2003.  Moto G family is the most successful range in company and it called budget phones. The regular phone start with £169 and plus model costs nearly £199.

These models are impressive in price and you can find Moto X play for £259 in many areas. If you looking for cheaper one, you can buy G 3rd generation for £149. If you want to order through the Moto Marker you can choose items like rear cover and willing color and it will cost £229 only, But for Moto G4 plus 64GB model costs £264.

Design and Build Quality

We have to say that both Moto G4 and Moto G4 plus has no different at first sight. The only different is the finger print scanner which situated below the screen of Moto G4 plus. Yet the phone looks stylish and it’s not too thick (9.8mm) and heavy (155g).

As we mentioned G4 plus is exactly same as Moto G4 and it has 5.5-inch screen size. Also its screen resolution is higher but still full HD like other models and it provides quality contrast colors and viewing angles.

Normally Motorola doesn’t use other materials such as wood, leather. They only use plastic for body. Moto G4 plus also build in plastic. Its build quality is good but the volume key is very flush with case. It is little difficult to use. The Waterproofing facility is not used to this model which used in last year.

Performance

The G4 plus uses the same Qualomm Snapdragon 617 processor like G4. The octa-core CPUis use instead of snapdragon 410. Also features Cat & LTE and Adreno 405 graphics. There is an impressive difference in higher spec model of the Moto G4 plus which comes with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. Moto G4 plus is a smooth operator in general use and it performs well.

When it’s comes to connectivity the Moto G4 Plus is more expensive and you only get 11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and regular Micro-USB. You might be disappointed that because there is no NFC, modern Wifi or other features like USB-type C.

Even fingerprint scanner provides extra security, you can’t use it properly with the lack of NFC. Usually this fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate. And the small rim around it helps to locate. But you can’t use it as home button.

When we talk about the battery there is no plus mark because G4 plus has battery with 3000mAh. And it is non-removable. As in our benchmark test the Moto G4 plus can use 8 hours and 50 minutes and it is a good time.

You will get Turbo power charger with Moto G4 plus and it’s worth to your payment. You can get six hours battery life from a short 15 minutes charge or 25% charge going by Motorola’s 24 hour battery life claim.

Camera

Moto G4 plus comes with a 16MP camera and it features an f/2.0 aperture, phase detection and laser auto focus plus a dual LED flash. The phone will shoot at 11.9 MB by default and if you need to use all 16MP you have to shoot in 4:3 aspect ratio. Disadvantage is you can’t get visible different in still photos, even when it crop in to a small section for uploading social media.

It is shame that the G4 plus is limited to 1080 video recording at 30fps with the extra resolution like other regular models. Also it can shoot slow motion 120fps video in a paltry 540p only.

Software and Apps

Basically no difference in software between the Moto G4 model and the Moto G4 plus and it also comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Head here to find some useful functions which were previously spread across various apps. Now this is a hub for things like Moto Display and Moto Actions. The former allows you to get information on the lock screen without switching the screen on. You can also set up a time period to keep the screen dark.

Moto Actions is a set of optional gestures for quickly doing things like launching the torch or camera app. You can also pick up to answer a call or flip over to enable do not disturb.

It’s very much a blank canvas as there are no duplicate apps for things like gallery or messaging. You just get the standard Google selection and then can download the apps you want from the Play Store.

Our verdict

Although Moto G4 plus very similar to Moto G4. It is useless to pay more money to get this model for the finger print scanner or more storage/Extra RAM. But Motorola Moto G4 Plus performs quite well, challenging higher priced mid-range options such as the Nexus 5x or Telstra Signature Premium at a lower price point.
