How to Root OnePlus 5 with TWRP Recoverry

Well , the good news here for readers! OnePlus 5 Root is now available, which means that you can access the Root and use your favorite Root applications for some supercool things right away.

The Root is gained through the TWRP Recovery for OnePlus 5, which is what you first need to install to get Root access.

However, this is not really the first step, as it would have to unlock the Bootloader of your OnePlus 5 first. Therefore, to gain Root access on OnePlus 5 get through this order: unlock bootloader, then install TWRP, then the last thing is to make the Root access.

Pre Requirements

  • Make sure the Phone (OnePlus 5) Is charged up to 50%
  • USB cable to get connected with the PC (the Original one is recommended)
  • Setup Minimal ADB tool and Fastboot Drivers
  • Backup Apps, media, contacts and everything on the OnePlus 5.
  • Download the below files
    TWRP Recovery tool
    SuperSU Root file
    Disabled Forced Encryption (no-verity-opt-encrypt)

 

Unlocking the Bootloader on OnePlus 5

  1. Setup ADB and Fastboot in your PC
  2. Enable Developer options on your OnePlus 5.
    (go to Settings > About Phone > tap the Built Number for 7 times to enable Developer Options, Bit says you’re now a Developer)
  3. Now Enable OEM unlock at developer options on the OnePlus 5.
    (Go to Settings > Developer Options > OEM Unlock and check Unlocking Bootloader)
  4. Launch Command prompt window through the ADB folder on your PC.
    (right click on empty space on the folder while holding the Shift, and click Open command window here)
  5. Now Boot your OnePlus 5 into Fastboot mode.
    (Turn off your OnePlus 5 and hold Power and Volume keys at the same time for few seconds to power on it in Fastboot Mode)
  6. Then connect the OnePlus 5 into the PC using the USB Cable.
  7. Once the OnePlus 5 is connected to the PC, enter the below command into the command prompt.
    adb devices
  8. Now type in the following command to Unlock the Bootloader on your OnePlus 5
    fastboot oem unlock
  9. Now it will show you an Unlock Bootloader prompt, press volume button to select and press power button to select yes
  10. You have now successfully unlocked the Bootloader on your OnePlus 5.

Installing TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 5

  1. Download the TWRP.img file into the PC
  2. Place the TWRP image fie into the ADB Folder
  3. Now Boot your OnePlus 5 into Fastboot mode and connect it to the PC
    (Turn off your OnePlus 5 and hold Power and Volume keys at the same time for few seconds to power on it in Fastboot Mode)
  4. Launch command prompt in the ADB Folder and type in the below command in order to flash the TWRP.img file
    fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-oneplus5.img
  5. If you have change the file name, in the code replace twrp-3.1.1-0-oneplus5 as the current file name
    fastboot flash recovery filename.img
  6. Once the TWRP Recovery is successfully flashed, disconnect your OnePlus 5 from the PC and boot it into TWRP Recovery mode.
    (Turn off your OnePlus 5 and hold Power and Volume down buttons at the same time for few seconds to power on it in TWRP Mode)
  7. Now let it finish flasing
  8. You have successfully flashed TWRP Recovery on your OnePlus 5.

Once the TWRP Recover is flashed, now the main part is to disable Forced Encryption to gain Root access.

 

Disable Forced Encryption in OnePlus 5

Like all other Flagship devices these days, OnePlus also comes with dm-Verity control and forced encryption enabled. Although this provides a layer of security and does not allow you to get gain Root access. At the same time, encryption also eats storage and performance is also consumed for keys. In order to obtain Root access, you must first disable Forced Encryption before flashing anything through TWRP. It is a fairly simple step by step process.

  1. Download the no-verity-opt-encrypt file and copy it into your OnePlus 5 internal storage.
  2. Now reboot your device into TWRP Recovery mode.
    (Turn off your OnePlus 5 and hold Power and Volume down buttons at the same time for few seconds to power on it in TWRP Mode)
  3. In the TWRP mode select install and locate the no-verity-opt-encrypt and swipe right to confirm and flash.

 

Root OnePlus 5 using SuperSU

  1. Download the supers.zip and copy it into the OnePlus 5 internal storage.
  2. Reboot your Phone into TWRP Recovery
    (Turn off your OnePlus 5 and hold Power and Volume down buttons at the same time for few seconds to power on it in TWRP Mode)
  3. Select install and locate the SuperSU.zip file and swipe right to confirm flash.
  4. Wait for it to finish the process.
  5. Once the process is completed, just reboot your Device.
  6. Now you have your OnePlus 5 with Root access.
