How to install TWRP Recovery and Root Moto G5S Plus

Here is how to easily install TWRP recovery on to your Moto G5S Plus.

  1. First of all, you will have to unlock the bootloader of your Moto G5S Plus.
  2. Then download the TWRP recovery file from the above Downloads section.
  3. Now, connect your Moto G5S Plus into the PC through a USB cable.
  4. Once the device is connected to the PC, open the command window on your PC, in the folder where you have saved the TWRP recovery file.
    (Go to that folder, and then type cmd in the address bar hit enter key to open the command window)
  5. While the Moto G5S Plus is connected to the PC, reboot it to fastboot mode by providing the below command
    adb reboot bootloader
    (make sure to keep an eye on your phone, if it requires to Allow USB debugging, accept it by selecting OK/Yes)
  6. Now, let’s install TWRP recovery by providing the next command provided below.
    fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-sanders.img
  7. That’s it. Now the TWRP recovery has been successfully installed on your Moto G5S Plus.
  8. To get accessed with TWRP, use the command provided below
    fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1-sanders.img
  9. For the first time when you enter into the TWRP recovery, it will ask your permission for you to Swipe to allow modifications for /system’. DO NOT ALLOW it.
  10. Once you allow this one, the DM Verity check gets enabled by the system and it will not let you reboot back to OS normally unless you manually disable it by flashing a root file, such like SuperSU and Magisk.or a simple DM verity disabler file
  11. So, make sure that you only allow for system modification when you have the DM verity disabler file or a root file ready to be flashed,
  12. Keep the file copied on to your Moto G5S Plus. So, for the moment let’s not allow it, so that we can simply reboot back into OS normally by clicking that option.

Guide – Root Moto G5S Plus

Once you have successfully flashed a recovery, there are two ways possible to root Moto G5S Plus, one is using the Magisk, and the another one is using SuperSU. We have explained both the method below to root Moto G5S Plus. But still we recommend you to Root Moto G5S Plus with Magisk, as it is more comfortable because it gets with lots of customizations with its modules. Not only that, Magisk brings in the option to hide root, this might help in such situations like in case of apps like Android Pay, etc. While, SuperSU is just a simple root trick, that only does some simple job to manage Root permissions.

Method 1:
Root Moto G5S Plus using Magisk

  1. Download the Magisk zip and Magisk Manager apk files in the Download section above.
  2. Copy both the Magisk files into your Moto G5S Plus.
  3. Now, boot your Moto G5S Plus into TWRP recovery.
    (Allow for system modification by swiping)
  4. In the recovery menu, tap on Install and then navigate to the Magisk zip file that you transferred to your device.
  5. After selecting the magisk.zip file, now Swipe on the bottom of the screen to Confirm Flash and begin the flashing process.
  6. Once Magisk is successfully flashed, you will be displayed with a Reboot System option, select it.
  7. When your Moto G5S Plus is rebooted, open the file manager app and navigate to the folder where you transferred the Magisk Manager apk file.
  8. Then open the Magisk Manager app and get verified about your device’s root status.

That’s it. Enjoy root with Magisk on your Moto G5S Plus.

Method 2:
Root Moto G5S Plus using SuperSU

  1. Download SuperSU zip file provided in the Download section above
  2. Copy the SuperSU zip file into your Moto G5S Plus.
  3. Now, boot your Moto G5S Plus into TWRP recovery.
    (Allow for system modification by swiping)
  4. In the recovery menu, tap on Install and then navigate to the SuperSU zip file that you transferred to your device.
  5. After selecting the SuperSU.zip file, now Swipe on the bottom of the screen to Confirm Flash and begin the flashing process.
  6. Once SuperSU is successfully flashed, you will be displayed with a Reboot System option, select it.

That’s it. Now your Moto G5S Plus is successfully rooted. To verify, simply download, install and run root checker app on your Moto G5S Plus.
